Thank you for reading my story about Matt Wheeler, and taking the time to comment on it. You'd asked if the story was real. The answer is only some parts. (Matt was injured while on a ski trip, by hitting a tree. I had something fall down and hit me.) (Matt has a moderate to severe brain injury plus grandmal seizures, he broke T8, and also had to have many rods to replace shattered bones. I have a mild to moderate brain injury but no grandmal seizures, and I broke L2 which is much lower down on the spine) (We both need to have an attendant of some kind........but I can do more for myself than he can) The kinds of things that happen to him may have happened to me......but not all of it. I've had waiters or sales people overlook me, and I've had to deal with people being rude or just not understand what it is like being disabled. For the most part I'm like any other woman in her 30's. I go to the movies, malls, out to dinner or sometimes I take my kids to the park. I need a larger parking space, wider doorways, and clearer aisles, and definitely can't do stairs; aside from how I get around and that I do need extra help I am in most respects like the majority of my peers. I hope this answers your question.......if not just ask in my Guest Book and I'll try to answer anything else you'd like to know. I am glad you liked this story.....there are 7 earlier chapters as well; I hope you'll keep checking in on this story and maybe have a few laughs and learn a bit more about Matt and what it is like for him.
