In the ancient tales of Welsh mythology, especially the Mabinogion, Annwn (meaning 'Very Deep') was the utopic Otherworld where the dead would dwell for eternity in peace and harmony. In the oldest stories the mysterious land was ruled by the Welsh god Arawn, but later, as King Arthur legends grew Arawn was supplanted by Gwyn ap Nudd, the powerful God of Winter but later demoted to little more than a king of the fairies, leader of demons and hellhounds, and occassional member of King Arthur's retinue. Annwn's image began to change, and instead of being thought of an idyllic paradise it became connected to a more macabre Christian understanding as the dark and gloomy final resting place of the dead. Being the mini-goth that I like claiming to be, I liked this darker version better, and it thus inspired me to make this underground chasm of the Lord of the Dead, a subterranean abode with 1 bedroom and a spare, an eat-in-kitchen, dining room, bathroom, and great hall where the dearly departed can wander aimlessly for all eternity. Mwah hah hah.
