These babies will not visually disappear on the side of your larger builds, something that has always haunted me. I know you are wondering what in the world is a QUOIN. In architectural-speak, it is the vertical cap on the outside corner used to disguise open seems and irregularities at the end of a course of block. They look like they are load bearing but they actually are not. The blocks, mortar, and quoins are all separately recolor-able.
Now, please be aware that the novice user may experience a bit of frustration in getting them to visually crunch, particularly when using the quoins. You may have trouble getting the colors between the patterns to match up. This should not happen if you only use the blocks proper. From what I know thus far this is a function of the game and not a flaw in the pattern design because I have experienced it with in-game patterns. It has something to do (I think) with the addition of the third channel on the quoins as well as with the light differentials between the sunny and shadowy sides of the building. It may take some time but you can fine tune the colors in Create-A-Style.
