If, when you think 'Victorian', your thoughts turn to those tall, slim Victorian 'ladies' - tightly corseted and very proper, albeit with a yen for feathers and frills - then you probably won't want to linger with Milady. No, she is much more the cheerful, robust, seaside landlady Victorian - you may have known one? Whalebone corset disdained, her ample attributes aren't restrained, no extravagant hat or sunshade. This is Milady.
Like her namesake, she is broad and not very tall, but her arms are lifted wide and welcoming. Her rooms are generous but still cosy and comfortable with ample space for the personal treasures one accumulates through life. The main traffic areas on the ground floor - kitchen/dining - TV room - library/office - and the main bath are separated from each other by strategically placed hallways, which are themselves almost large enough to classify as rooms. If there are no children in residence, the twin bedroom on this floor will, instead, provide extra sleep space for guests . Upstairs are the two double bedroom suites - each has ensuite and sitting room adjoining. On the landing, seating has been provided near the pretty fountain, which burbles happily under the rear- facing window. Fitted carpets and classic window treatments feature throughout, with no expense being spared in sourcing their materials; furniture and decor are also of the highest calibre.
Milady welcomes you. The coffee is hot and the cupcakes, fresh. If you prefer to take your refreshments in the open air, there is an alfresco dining set-up in the rear yard, accessed via the kitchen. Victorian ladies for all their air of refinement, always enjoyed a bit of harmless gossip - perhaps you have some to share?
